Today, we already see inflection points arriving across several industries from blockchain, artificial intelligence, and robotics that have us poised towards a major change in how we navigate our daily lives both at home and at work. These technologies are on everyone’s minds today and are being integrated in almost every technology product as companies try to gather higher market share to this leap in productivity. The use of artificial intelligence to replace workforces is a major worry among policymakers and experts, however, there is another aspect that is far more alarming that is highlighted by this series: AI cyberattacks.

As more time passes after the global pandemic, it becomes more apparent with every passing year how much of our lives are represented in the digital as well as how much change has occurred in the physical. One of the greatest examples of this is the shift from purely in-office to hybrid or work-from-home work structures for companies with ramifications for commercial real estate that are felt today. These arrangements also showed how connectivity for our daily needs from entertainment to communication to even groceries when we got sick or tried to avoid getting sick.

These changes provided great convenience, yet, they have also brought their challenges through an increase in hacking and sophisticated social engineering attacks that steal user data and even attempt to steal their identities and use them in criminal activities. This issue affects not only individuals, but the largest breaches have been through corporations and even infrastructure. As we see in this series, data through these new breakthroughs in technology create new dilemmas, such as how failures in corporate cybersecurity can impact the wellbeing of those using medical devices and whether or not our reality can be challenged through manipulation of data.

From AI cyberattacks and their ability to run uninterrupted 24/7 causing daily breaches in vital systems as we open our lives more to these technologies to altering our perceptions based on the virtual reality we immerse ourselves in, the future holds a new dynamic and it is up to all of us in how we can highlight these issues and create a safer future for all.
